This is a large zelkova tree with a trunk girth of 15m (49.2 feet) thick. The place, where this tree stands, was once the worshipping place used by crypto-Christians in Edo Era during the time when Christianity was persecuted.
This well known biologist, whose face is printed on 1000 yen bills, was the eldest son of a farmer in Inawashiro Town. When he was little, he accidently burned his left hand in the fire from a sunken hearth and damaged it very badly. Because of this, he was called “tenbō” (a nickname which meant a hand that looks like a stick since the fingers on his left hand were fused together) and was teased by his classmates. Even under such circumstance and the poverty which his family faced, he strived to study in order to become a doctor. At this museum, the actual house in which he was born, the sunken hearth, and the alcove post with his determination engraved on it, are exhibited along with the medals that he had been awarded for his great works.
This is a caldera lake which is famous for the Nikkōkisuge (yellow alpine lilies) blooming all over the field. This habitat for marsh plants was decreed as a natural monument of the nation. You are able to walk through the marshland and explore the precious, unparalleled nature.
Many photographers visit this waterfall because of its beautiful appearance as well as the easy access to the falls. It takes about 10 minutes walk from the parking lot. The dynamic waterfall with a 10m (32.8 feet) fall and 16m (52.5 feet) width is called “Odaki” (means manly falls). On the west side of it, a waterfall called “Medaki” (means feminine falls), stands quieter and elegantly. These two waterfalls make a great contrast to each other.
Mt. Bandai used to be called Mt. Iwahashi in the past. The name of this shrine was derived from the mountain. It worships the gods of Mt. Bandai, the monstrous giants called “Tenaga” (long arms) and “Ashinaga” (long legs). Their stories such as Tenaga sat down on the top of the mountain and washed its face with the water of Lake Inawashiro, are still passed down to generations.
This is the shrine in which Sugawara-no-Michizane, the well known god of studies is deified. Kobiragata is the birthplace of Sadasuke Noguchi, the father of Hideyo Noguchi. He had visited this shrine every month to pray for his son’s success while Hideyo had been studying abroad.
This large gingko tree in Miyakozawa district is 25m (82 feet) in height and 6.4m (21 feet) in girth. It was planted along with the establishment of the Jizōdō, a hall to enshrine stone-made statue of Jizō (Ksitigarbha), which is located near the tree.
This art museum, which is located near the entrance of Goshiki-numa in Ura-bandai, exhibits the collection of Salvador Dalí such as his paintings, sculptures, and woodblock prints. Please enjoy the world famous works of Dalí in this museum surrounded by the beautiful garden and the fantastic view.
